About Hartlepool Amateur Radio Club
Hartlepool Amateur Radio Club (M0IDZ) is a friendly, community‑focused group of radio enthusiasts who enjoy learning, experimenting, and having fun with all aspects of amateur radio. We welcome everyone — licensed operators, SWLs, beginners, families, and anyone who wants to explore the world of radio.
Who We Are
We’re a relaxed, welcoming club based in Hartlepool, bringing together people who share an interest in radio, electronics, communication, and technology. Our members range from complete beginners to experienced operators – and everyone helps each other out.
What We Do
If you’re new to amateur radio, or want to progress you licence class, we provide support and training for Foundation, Intermediate, and Full classes of UK amateur radio licence.
Rather than running courses, at this time we direct people to the many high quality online learning resources, such as Essex Ham, then provide focussed support with areas that need it, and sometimes hands-on demonstrations of stuff so people can learn by doing which is the one area the online sphere can not provide. There’s little point reinventing the wheel, and the quality of online tuition nowadays is excellent.
The club is also a registered exam venue.
The club tries to get involved in the local community as much as possible with activities like the Scout’s Jamboree On The Air, an annual event for Scouts and Guides to teach them about radio and to assist them to contact their fellow Scouts and Guides by means of amateur radio. This provides the Scouts and Guides with a means of learning about fellow Scouts and Guides from around the world. It’s now the largest annual worldwide scouting event.
We also get out and about and set up radio stations in outdoor locations, participating in amateur radio events like Field Day where radio clubs around the world do the same and try to contact each other
